The 8pre-es connects to a Mac or PC with Thunderbolt™, Hi-speed USB 2.0 or AVB/TSN Ethernet. Proven, reputable MOTU drivers work with all your favorite audio apps, delivering industry-leading, ultra-low round-trip latency (RTL) performance as low as 1.6 ms at 96 kHz over Thunderbolt with high-performance DAW hosts. USB audio class-compliant firmware allows connection to your iPad™ or any iOS™ device (with a standard camera connection kit, sold separately).

The 8pre-es is equally well-suited for studio and stage, with or without a computer. As an interface or standalone mixer, the 8pre-es provides 24 separate inputs and 28 separate outputs, including eight XLR/TRS “combo” mic/line/guitar inputs, eight balanced (TRS) quarter-inch outs and two independent front-panel headphone outs.

DSP-fueled mixer with EQ, compression, and effects

The MOTU 8pre-es's built-in digital mixer delivers large-console-style mixing with 48 channels, 7 stereo buses, 3 groups, access to 32 network inputs, and 32-bit floating-point effects processing, so building complex, latency-free routing schemes is a piece of cake. And routing is extremely flexible. Send any input to any output, or even multiple outputs. Connect all of your studio gear, including microphones, guitars, synths, keyboards, drum machines and effects processors. Record, monitor, route and process all of these live inputs with no latency and no processor strain on your computer. Add Classic Reverb with lengths up to 60 seconds. Further sculpt your sound with 4-band parametric EQ meticulously modeled after British analog console EQs. Apply conventional compression or the Leveler™, an accurate model of the legendary LA-2A™ optical compressor that provides vintage, musical automatic gain control.

Take control of your recording sessions with built-in talkback mic and front-panel talk button. Connect two sets of speakers and check your mixes instantly with front-panel A/B speaker select buttons.
Analyze and scope your audio with advanced diagnostic tools, including a full-screen real-time FFT display, spectrogram “waterfall” display, full-featured oscilloscope, X-Y plot, and linear/polar phase graph.

Control everything from your laptop, tablet, or smartphone

If you connect a wireless router to your 8pre-es, you can access all of its internal mixing functions, including effects and processing on your tablet, smartphone, or laptop, turning this powerful audio interface into a fully capable standalone mixer. Best of all, the control software is web-based. It runs in your favorite web browser on Mac, Windows, Linux, iOS, or Android — basically anything — as long as it's on the same network.
